So far in 2016 alone, there has been 241 mass shootings in the United States according to Gun Violence Achieve. With the increase of these incidents in recent years, it makes it even more dangerous for our first responders to be out there. However, I believe that there is a way, if done correctly could save many of lives. And not only the first responders. I believe the use of drones during an active shooter situation could be an invaluable operations in terms of life and safety.
Take a second and put yourself in the first responder's shoes, especially the police that will be the first ones in the 'hot zone'. Your adrenaline is pumping. You hear screams and cries. A gun shot here and then another one there. You come up to a corner and are not sure if the gunman is sitting there waiting to pick you off as you turn the corner. The reality of it is, active shooter incidents are incredibly dangerous for the officers involved.
Now image this. While you're in the building, you have a drone that is flying 10 feet in front of you. It is able to take corners and see if there is a potential threat right it front of you. It will be able to make an entrance into a room and allow those first responders to see where the injured are as well as figure out if a room is clear. The adrenaline is still pumping throughout your body, but your mind is at ease.
Drones are an incredible source of technology that could be utilized to save many lives. Sending these drones into an active shooter situation allows the police officers to know that the next hallway is clear. It allows the paramedics, EMTs and firefighters know where the patients are. With the ability to live stream the video feed to a private Youtube channel allows everyone on scene to know what is going on. This technology allows for a more effective and efficient operation that WILL save lives. This is one of the ways that our military uses drones to make their operations more effective and safe for our troops. First responders will be able to more effectively do their job and protect the lives of many during these tragic events that are so common in this country today.
Keep your men and women safe. Keep your community safe. Fly a drone and have peace of mind.
